The Carbon Literacy Project
- Monday July 21, 2025
The IHE has teamed up with The Driven Company to offer training accredited by the UN-recognised The Carbon Literacy Project specifically for the highways sector.
Achieving meaningful carbon reduction requires all staff to be appropriately skilled. Through implementation of carbon literacy, both individuals and organisations can increase their knowledge and capacity to create a positive shift in response to climate change, support bids, business plans and personal development reviews with quantitative, evidenced data.
In addition, for organisations seeking PAS 2080, this gives employees a firm footing of knowledge to allow the standard’s principles to be met. Learners will demonstrate knowledge of:
- Greenhouse gases and climate change
- How climate change is likely to affect people locally, nationally and internationally
- How individual and group actions impact the amount of greenhouse gases produced
- What can be done to reduce impacts
- How individuals and groups can motivate others to act.
The key benefits are:
- Improved carbon literacy and ability to bring associated benefits to customers
- Visible alignment to public and Government policy on climate change
- Evidenced action towards meeting procurement framework requirements, supporting tender responses and achieving other international standards e.g. PAS 2080, ISO 14001, ISO 20121 and BREEAM among others.
- Support for positive behavioural change, leading to reductions in organisational carbon footprint and help with bids/business plans/ personal development reviews with quantitative, evidenced data.
The training is relevant to both individuals and teams and is accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project and led by Dr Helen Bailey who is a certified trainer.
