The IHE offers membership types for highways professionals at every stage of their career.
The following membership grades are available:
Fellow
Requirements for this route
IEng or CEng registration OR
15 years engineering experience (5 in a senior position)
Member
Requirement for this route
Engineering degree AND 2 years engineering experience OR 10 years experience (three in a responsible position) OR EngTech registration.
Associate
Requirements for this route
Relevant engineering qualification AND/OR a minimum of five years highway engineering experience.
Apprentice
Requirements for this route
In employment with a formal apprenticeship contract
Student
Requirements for this route
Students currently in relevant full/part time education.
There are also experience-only routes to membership. You’re welcome to join at the relevant IHE grade provided you have the required experience and/or qualifications.
IHE members can upgrade to another membership level with the necessary qualifications or experience.
We aim to deal with membership applications within six weeks but in some cases, we may need to refer your application to our Membership and Qualifications Committee.
