IHE holds first online CPD courses

  • Tuesday December 8, 2020

Asphalt for Highways and Other Paved Areas

Our first online course held in September was presented by asphalt expert Jeff Farrington HonFIHE. The course was split into three morning sessions. Delegates benefited from having no travel time and were encouraged to ask questions just as they would on a normal course before the pandemic.

Feedback from the delegates was very positive regarding both the timing and the course content, which enabled delegates to bring themselves up to date and gave those with little or no previous experience a basic understanding of asphalt’s composition and production. The course covered which asphalt mixtures to use where and when it is essential to use modified bitumens. It also dealt with the recently introduced warm, half-warm and cold asphalts, and guidance on those factors which make road surfacings safer and environmentally beneficial.

The course fee also included additional asphalt related information emailed to delegates and the opportunity to contact the tutor with any specific questions.

Engineering Technician Workshops

Our first online workshop on gaining EngTech Professional Registration took place on 13 September. Tutor Richard Hayes CEng FIHE, described the workshop as ‘a very new experience. Gauging the response from the participants can be quite challenging and the sessions are much more intensive as people become more accustomed to such events’.
