RIS3 Summer 2024 Bulletin published
- Wednesday July 31, 2024
Since 2015, the government has planned investment in England’s Strategic Road Network (SRN) in 5-year Road Periods. The spending on the network, the performance outcomes that the government is buying and the long-term vision for the network is set out in a Road Investment Strategy (RIS). The SRN is the network of motorways and trunk A roads managed and operated by National Highways (NH). The Road Investment Strategy itself is a budgetary and performance setting document, not a planning document. We are currently in Road Period 2
covering 2020 to 2025. The third RIS will cover the period 2025 – 2030. The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) holds National Highways to account for delivering the current RIS, and also provides independent advice on the challenge and deliverability of the next RIS. Transport Focus (TF) represents the voice of road users in the RIS-setting process and undertakes the surveys of road user satisfaction metrics in the performance specification.
