News from the South West Branch
- Wednesday September 22, 2021

The IHE’s South Western Branch is now in its 56th year and has always managed to run successful events. Due in no small part to COVID, in recent years it has found if difficult to run an active programme other than Annual General Meetings. The last well-attended site visit was to see the coastal defence work at Lyme Regis.
Both in 2020 and 2021 the AGMs were held as online events; similarly all branch committee meetings have been held virtually due to the pandemic.
Over recent months it has held three successful webinars run jointly with the branch sponsor, WJ Group. The branch wishes to extend its thanks to WJ for supporting events that allowed members from across the world to undertake essential CPD.
The first ‘Spring into Summer’ online event was in April 2021, entitled Sustainability in the Highway lining sector, followed by events in May featuring ‘road markings, studs and retroreflective assessment’, and in July featuring ‘high friction surfacing, coloured surfacing, crack and joint sealing’. These can be found on the CPD hub within the members section.
The branch is planning further online events featuring road schemes that are taking place across the South West. Future IHE Branch events can be viewed here.
