News from the IHE Southern Branch

  • Wednesday March 23, 2022

On 10 February the Southern Branch of the IHE facilitated a presentation by Ian Gillam of Saint-Gobain PAM UK to inform attendees about their ReCover initiative, with an emphasis on cost savings and sustainability. These two subjects are at the top of everyone’s agenda at the moment.

Ian gave a very interesting and informative presentation in a really accessible manner.

Saint Gobain PAM UK are based at Holwell Foundry in Melton Mowbray, where, for over 10 years, they have been reusing the wire found in old tyres and melting it as a raw material to be remade into  their access covers and gratings…that’s almost two million tyres over the years.

It was really interesting to discover that one out of four products sold by the company didn’t actually exist five years ago. Some of this is in response to customer demand but some of it was due to Saint-Gobain PAM UK’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Ian explained that the initiative doesn’t just stop when their products are sold to the end user. Saint-Gobain PAM UK recycle their client’s waste and feed it back into the production process.
The circular economy, sustainability and innovation are principles that are clearly very important to Saint Gobain Pam and their clients.

Ian advised the branch that Hampshire County Council is the first local authority to sign up to the ReCover initiative. As always, the presentation will be available online at the IHE CPD hub so that attendees can refresh their memories or those who couldn’t attend won’t miss out on this great presentation.

If you would like to find out more, please do watch the presentation on the CPD hub or contact Ian at ian.gillam@saint-gobain.com
