IHE awards Ellie Gormley Honorary Fellowship
- Tuesday November 22, 2022

The Institute of Highway Engineers is pleased to announce that it has awarded Ellie Gormley an Honorary Fellowship for outstanding dedication and commitment to the Institute for over 20 years.
Ellie worked for Staffordshire County Council and joined the Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers (as it was known) in 1997, successfully gaining her IEng qualification in 1998. Ellie has been an active member of the Mercia Branch for many years, during which she has been instrumental in their successful golf day.
In 2000, Ellie was elected to the council and served tirelessly on various groups before serving as Honorary Treasurer of the IHE between 2012 and 2020, following which she was elected as Junior Vice President (JVP) of the Institute at the AGM held in June 2020. Unfortunately, due to a IHE awards Ellie Gormley Honorary Fellowship change in personal circumstances Ellie stepped down as JVP in October 2021 and also resigned from the Council.
On awarding her the Honorary Fellowship at the Highways Awards, IHE president Martin Polland said: ‘Ellie is one of the most deserving recipients of this following her years of dedication and commitment to the Institute. When Ellie stepped down as JVP it was a loss to the IHE, and I hope that one day she will be in a position to rejoin the Council and perhaps complete her journey towards representing the IHE at the highest level.
‘I know that I pass on congratulations and thanks not only from members of the Council, but the whole of the IHE membership to Ellie on receiving this well deserved award.’ Ellie commented: ‘It is an absolute privilege to accept this Honorary Fellowship award.
I am humbled and really do appreciate it. The IHE is like a big family who have wholly supported me through my professional career path. IHE membership provides fantastic opportunities for students, apprentices, graduates, technicians, and engineers of all highway disciplines to achieve their professional goals. I will continue to assist the IHE to further grow its membership and help like-minded members to achieve their professional aims.’
