IHE and IAT team up for technical collaboration

In October, the IHE Scottish Branch hosted a joint technical meeting with the Institute of Asphalt Technology in Cumbernauld. The event was attended by over 70 members from both institutes and was a great success.
During the evening an excellent presentation was given by Phil Sabin, technical director of Aggregate Industries, and also chairman of the Mineral Product Association Asphalt Technical Panel. Phil’s presentation was on warm mix asphalt and detailed the importance of decarbonisation within our present environmental climate. He highlighted the pros and cons of the challenges that this material brings regarding the workability and compaction of the material, and also emphasised the benefits to health and safety, another key factor in using this type of asphalt.
Those present found the presentation a useful insight in the selection of the right material. Scottish Branch chairman Graham Drummond commented: ‘This was a really successful event between our two organisations and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended. We are extremely grateful to Phil for his insightful and useful presentation.’
