Highways England publishes Vision for Route Strategies
- Thursday June 17, 2021

Highways England has recently published its vision for route strategies for the third road period (2025-2030). Route strategies will inform the Government’s future investment in motorways and A-roads in England.
They published route strategies in 2015 and 2017 to guide the development of the Government’s Road Investment Strategies (RIS). They informed the strategic vision and performance along with investment priorities and opportunities for the SRN. At the centre of future investment planning are evidence-based assessments of current performance and the future needs of the network.
Advances over the next 30 years will revolutionise transportation, road travel and personal and commercial mobility. Our roads, our infrastructure and even our ways of working will need to be ready to embrace and enable new ways of travelling. This includes adapting to the challenge of climate change, supporting low carbon transport, increasing automation and digital technologies, and responding to changing travel preferences.
