Fostering Global Collaboration
- Monday February 17, 2025
In December, Council member Dr Shervin Motamedi CEng FIHE represented the IHE during a visit to the prestigious Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) School of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering, Malaysia.
He delivered a presentation to students, academics and industry professionals, highlighting the wide-ranging benefits of IHE membership, including access to professional development resources, networking opportunities and pathways to professional registration for academic and industry experts.
The visit provided a platform to discuss the importance of professional development in highway engineering at a global scale. These discussions underscored the IHE’s commitment to supporting the global highway engineering community by bridging the gap between education and industry.
Dr Motamedi stated: ‘I am delighted to represent the IHE during this visit.
‘By strengthening ties with institutions worldwide, the IHE continues to pave the way for global innovation and excellence in professional development in the highway engineering sector.
‘We had fruitful discussions during the visit on the status of professional recognition, the need for training highway engineers in both local and international contexts, and opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry. The IHE is committed to providing training opportunities for the inquisitive minds of future highway engineers in the UK and abroad and we welcome initiatives that contribute to the global landscape of professional development.’
Professor Ir. Dr. Che Ibrahim, head of the School of Civil Engineering at UiTM, added: ‘I am delighted to welcome international collaboration opportunities that broaden horizons for our
students. With an average of 400 civil engineering graduates annually, we are committed to equipping future highway engineers with a global perspective through partnerships such as this visit from the Institute of Highway Engineers.
‘Dr Motamedi’s engagement with our students and faculty highlights the significance of professional development pathways. Together, we can foster innovation, enhance industry readiness, and advance the highway engineering profession on both a local and international scale.’
The IHE is keen to develop working relationships with academic institutions in order to support students throughout their education and onwards towards potential professional registration. It is actively involved with a number of universities where it provides presentations, guidance and support.
