Ex-CEO Hayes presents at LSBU
- Tuesday February 20, 2024
Past President and ex-CEO of the Institute of Highway Engineers Richard Hayes joined speakers from the Permanent Way Institution (PWI), the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) to deliver a series of presentations to a range of students at the London South Bank University (LSBU) between 13 and 17 November 2023.
Similar presentations have been arranged in previous years by Dr Amer Ali, who is the senior liaison officer for the Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs) and co-ordinator of professional development at the university. The presentations were arranged for LSBU first-year civil engineering students, BEng Full-Time, BEng Part-Time, BEng Apprentices, HNC and HNC Apprentices.
The talks provided students with valuable information and exposure to the roles and missions of the PEIs in addition to the importance of professional development and student membership.
LSBU has a number of formal Academic-Professional Partnerships with four PEIs to collaborate in professional development of staff and students, conferences, seminars, site visits, webinars and student ambassadors.
The PEIs in question are the institutions that make up the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), which accredits all civil engineering courses at the UK universities.
Mr Hayes’ presentation included information on the membership grades offered by the IHE, along with the routes to professional registration offered by the Institute.
Dr Amer Ali said there would be more arranged seminars to the final year BEng civil engineering students within the Professional Development (PD) component, which is taught annually and assessed by Dr Ali later in the academic year.
