Average speed camera event held by IHE Southern Branch

  • Wednesday March 24, 2021

On 12 January, IHE Southern Branch held the latest of its lunchtime presentations on Zoom, with approximately 80 registrations.

The presentation was centred around Highway England’s implementation in 2019 of an average speed enforcement camera system on the A3 in Guildford. This intervention was part of a series of route treatment measures aimed at improving safety on the A3 by reducing excessive speeding and speed related collisions, and facilitating a smoother flow of traffic. The Highways England project manager and designers involved in the scheme explained how it was designed and implemented, and also highlighted the expected benefits.

The presentation was considered very interesting by the attendees as it explained the technicalities behind the scheme, and how it affected many of those in the local area. It was interesting to see how beneficial this scheme has already been in reducing vehicle speeds and incidents.
