A Christmas message from the IHE President
- Sunday December 19, 2021

This has continued to be a challenging year for us all. So many of us have had to adapt to what has become the new ‘normal’. Likewise, the IHE continues to evolve to serve its members and the sector in the best way that we possibly can.
Our sector has continued to demonstrate resilience, with a focus on building back better, and has ensured the network remains operational during recent troubled times. This is a significant achievement and one we should all be proud of as highway practitioners.
As President of the IHE, I take great pride in being part of a highly motivated professional team, which has continued to support our institute and strive to develop new initiatives to serve our members. This year has also seen the delivery of an unprecedented number of online IHE CPD training events, and my thanks go out to our institute branches who have worked so hard to make this happen. I am excited about the extensive training offer we provide at the IHE and look forward to seeing this grow in 2022.
This year has also seen the welcome return of face-to-face events. Whether it be training events or meetings, we are now benefiting from the direct interaction, which we have very much missed over recent times. Our course demand is greater than it has ever been, and I encourage my fellow members to visit your IHE Membership area for the latest information on what is now
available from your institute.
Our membership continues to grow and despite all the challenges of late, the Institute is in a very strong position for the forthcoming year and beyond.
The green agenda is a priority for all of us, whether professionally or on a personal level, and one of my presidential aspirations has been to develop an IHE Environmental Strategy to reduce the institute’s carbon footprint and introduce green initiatives as part of our everyday business as usual activities. We are making good progress on this so look out for further announcements in 2022.
As 2021 draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my very best wishes to you all for Christmas. I hope we will all be able to celebrate the festive season in a customary manner. Enjoy the seasonal break and I look forward to us all returning safe and well for the coming new year.
Stephen Webb
IHE President
