Lincolnshire presents…the IHE
- Thursday September 25, 2025
Lincolnshire County Council recently delivered an online presentation to newer members of staff, aimed at encouraging professional membership and guiding them through the process of preparing for Engineering Technician (EngTech) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng) reviews.
The session, attended by over 30 staff members, was led by Mark Heaton MBA IEng FIHE, a longstanding member of the Institute with over 30 years of experience. Mr Heaton has contributed to the development of various IHE initiatives and frequently delivers presentations on behalf of the Institute.
The presentation highlighted:
- The benefits of professional registration and the career advantages it offers.
- How the IHE can support members in preparing their submissions.
- Practical guidance on gathering evidence, structuring submissions and presenting information effectively.
A key focus of the session was helping staff recognise the wide range of activities they undertake in highway engineering that could form part of their professional review submissions. Mr Heaton
emphasised the importance of not only documenting what they do but also explaining the reasoning behind their engineering decisions.
Following the presentation, staff were given time to ask questions and explore how they could be mentored throughout the process. As a result, several team members have already started gathering evidence and drafting their submissions.
The council is now planning further sessions to provide continued guidance and mentoring. This initiative forms part of Lincolnshire CC’s broader commitment to developing and growing its staff and engineering professionals.
