Season’s round-up

  • Tuesday July 22, 2025

The IHE has recently taken part in a number of industry events, reflecting its ongoing involvement in supporting safety, innovation, and professional development across the sector.

Passive Safety UK – Delivering a Safer Roadside Conference & Workshop at the National Conference Centre

This event was full of presentations and case studies covering timely issues like the safe system approach, the use of active road studs to remove lighting, the use of VRS on the local road network and many more. Thank you to IHE Council member Pryce Evans for co-chairing the afternoon session.

Transport Technology Forum Conference

This event saw our very own senior vice president Darren Capes FIET FIHE kick off proceedings with a fun introduction followed by insightful discussions with DfT, local authorities, suppliers and academia.

ITS UK Early Careers

Policy and engagement manager Cyrena Lafronte had the pleasure of attending Intelligent Transport Systems UK’s recent Early Careers Drinks Reception in London, which the IHE proudly sponsored. This event gave early career professionals the opportunity to network with peers and experienced experts in the sector. It also was an opportunity to celebrate new talent in the industry, sparked by an essay writing competition – a huge congratulations to both of the winners. IHE junior vice president Rebecca Bollen gave insight into what the IHE can offer for all stages of careers, including professional development, registration and training.

Cheryl Brown attended the Engineering Council’s Summer networking event in London, meeting with many other PEI staff and members, while Gemma Evans supported an RSTA skid resistance seminar at Gloucester Rugby club.

Cyrena Lafronte also participated in the Royal Academy of Engineering Working Group on Aging Infrastructure.
