International Women in Engineering Day
- Monday June 23, 2025
Today (23rd June 2025) is International Women in Engineering Day. The IHE would like to mark this day by celebrating the achievements of women in engineering and recognising the positive impact they have had across the highways and transport sector.
Women remain under represented across the engineering sector, and in the UK only 16.5% of engineers are women. The IHE are proud to share that around 14.5% of IHE’s membership is made up of women. The IHE is committed to see that number grow through greater support, opportunities and recognition of the sector and the great contribution women make to it.
This year’s theme #TogetherWeEngineer is a great reminder of the importance of engineering being a more inclusive industry.
We are pleased to share an insight from Emma Phillips EngTech MIHE RegTTME(PDip), an IHE member who recently completed her professional registration with the IHE.
“I chose to complete professional registration because it represents a formal recognition of my competence, commitment, and professionalism within my field. It demonstrates that I meet industry-recognised standards and am committed to maintaining and developing my skills through continued professional development.
The IHE courses have enabled me to expand my knowledge in temporary traffic management and gain more confidence in my own abilities. I’m proud to have earned this formal qualification, which I know will add tremendous value to the projects I lead during my career.”
Congratulations to Emma and all the women engineers helping to shape the future of engineering.
Let us continue to work towards a profession that drives inclusivity, diversity and innovation.
