UK Spending Review 2025 – The Strategic role of Engineering
- Tuesday June 10, 2025
As the UK Government prepares to announce the outcome of the 2025 Spending Review on 11 June 2025, the Institute of highway Engineers (IHE) has produced a briefing outlining the strategic role the engineering industry can play in supporting the UK’s long-term priorities.
The Spending Review will shape public investment from 2026 through to 2030. These decisions will have a significant impact on IHE members, the engineering workforce, local communities.
This briefing shares how the engineering sector can support government aims, through delivering smarter infrastructure, strengthening skills, driving innovation, and contributing to national security.
It also outlines how engineering professionals can work closely with Skills England, local growth hubs, and strategic delivery partners to ensure workforce readiness and innovation capacity meet the UK’s future skills demands.
As part of the IHE’s ongoing policy work, the IHE is encouraging early engagement between engineers and public bodies to help shape effective, resilient solutions that offer long term value for money.
The IHE remains committed to representing the voice of our members in key national discussions, and ensuring the value of engineering is recognised in future policy and investment decisions.
