Flying visit for NI Branch

On 2 May the Northern Ireland Branch of the IHE had the privilege of a visit by Horst Erdlen, the global head of marketing manager of J. Rettenmaier & Sohne (JRS) from Germany, to talk about the development and use of stone mastic asphalt (SMA) throughout the world.
Mr Erdlen highlighted the merits of using fibres in various asphaltic mixes to inhibit binder drainage and demonstrated how SMA was meeting the surfacing requirements in numerous countries across the world. He showed how it could be a durable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly material. It was most encouraging to have many local highway engineers present.
The Institute’s chief executive, Steve Spender, welcomed branch members and paid tribute to the efforts of the Northern Ireland office bearers in resurrecting the local IHE branch. He wished them every success in the future.
