Scottish Branch update

  • Monday December 11, 2017

The Scotland Branch recently held a technical evening in Perth on the A9 Dualling Project, which was very well attended. Jo Blewett and Yvette Shepard of Transport Scotland were the presenters, who kindly came along to assist us with an overview of this major project. Our thanks go to them for assisting and providing such an interesting presentation. Anyone wanting CPD certificates for this event or the previous event held in September please drop the branch an email. The branch also assisted at Road Expo Scotland and it was great to speak to existing members and to see so many new members signing up.

The next planned technical evening will take place on Tuesday 13 February 2018 and will be a joint event hosted by the Institute of Asphalt Technology. The topic will be the construction of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and the meeting will be held in the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld. There will be a meal at 6pm followed by presentation at 6.45. Members will be emailed early in 2018 with details of how to book.

We would like to encourage members who book places for planned technical evenings but are unable to make it to drop us an email confirming they are unable to attend. Unfortunately, we have had a number of no shows following confirmation of attendance at events recently and the committee would be grateful if you are unable to make it on the night to send an email confirming this. We appreciate things change but confirming you are unable to attend helps us with catering numbers on the night.

We are also pleased to confirm we have further plans for additional technical evenings next year and will announce details of these early in 2018. The branch is always happy to assist members with any questions they have. We would actively encourage anyone wishing to further their career and gain professional qualifications to get in touch; we have a number of people available for advice and mentoring if required. The branch email address for anyone wanting to get in touch is

It’s been an exciting year for the IHE in Scotland and my personal thanks go to the committee for all their hard work and endeavour. I would also like to take the opportunity to offer my congratulations to all members who have successfully passed their professional qualifications this year. It’s fantastic to see so many people obtaining professional recognition on all levels. I would like to say good luck to everyone who is about to embark on that journey, I know we have a number just about ready to submit or waiting on dates for review and I hope you gain the qualification you have applied for.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to offer season greetings to all our members in Scotland and wish them a prosperous and healthy 2018. nThe email address of the IHE Scotland Branch is:
