LCRIG and IHE strengthen partnership to drive innovation and professional development across the highways sector
- Thursday April 9, 2026
The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) have announced an extended Professional Development Partnership (PDP), reinforcing their shared commitment to supporting skills, innovation and professional growth within the highway’s community.
The renewed agreement builds on the foundations of the original PDP signed in July 2022, which formalised collaboration between the two organisations in key areas including training, event participation and the mutual promotion of sector initiatives.
Driving innovation through events and CPD
The partnership strengthens joint involvement in sector events – including LCRIG’s flagship Innovation & Learning Festival taking place in June 2026, were CPD will be accredited by the IHE. With innovation, sustainability and resilience high on the national agenda, both organisations recognise the need to empower practitioners with the latest knowledge, technology insights and best practice guidance.
Leaders welcome continued collaboration
Managing Director at LCRIG, Kerry Winstanley said on the renewed agreement:
“We are delighted to renew our partnership with the IHE and look forward to continuing to strengthen our collaboration. The PDP enables us to create valuable opportunities for knowledge-sharing and professional development across the highways community, and we look forward to their support as our CPD partner for the technical learning sessions at this summer’s Innovation and Learning Festival.”
IHE Chief Executive Lyle Andrew reinforced the long-term importance of the renewed agreement:
“It’s great news that we renew our PDP agreement with LCRIG. The partnership sees ongoing mutual benefits for both organisations, promoting industry training and general upskilling of engineers and others active in the field of highways and transportation.”
A shared vision for the future of highways
As the sector faces increasing pressures from climate impacts to funding challenges, the LCRIG and IHE partnership represents a strong, collaborative approach to addressing workforce development needs. Both organisations remain committed to uplifting the profession, improving local road networks and fostering innovation across the highways and transport technology sectors.
