IHE Membership Survey Results
- Thursday February 19, 2026
The results of our 2025 membership survey offer both reassurance and a clear call to action – highlighting our shared priorities for the year ahead.
Membership satisfaction: a strong endorsement.
On average, members rated satisfaction with IHE at 4.1 out of 5, with 82% of respondents saying they are satisfied or very satisfied with the experience. Even more heartening, 96% would recommend IHE to peers, highlighting professional development opportunities, industry recognition and access to technical resources as key benefits.
What’s working well
Several areas are contributing to this positive outlook:
- Digital engagement: Most of us engage with IHE through online platforms, with 86% appreciating the convenience and accessibility of our digital resources.
- Professional recognition: Our support for professional registration continues to be a major draw, with nearly 59% of those who filled in the survey holding professional registration—most commonly at the Incorporated Engineer (IEng) level.
- Relevant training: Courses such as Road Safety Engineering, Traffic Signs and Road Markings and Highway Law are consistently valued for career development.
Areas for improvement
Members’ feedback provides a roadmap for how the IHE can improve and will be taken into our next Council meeting:
1. Enhance local engagement: Strengthening branch-level activities will foster a stronger sense of community and allow best practice to be shared more easily.
2. Improve communication: Members want clearer, more consistent communication — especially round events, training and the registration process. Timely updates and greater transparency are a priority.
3. Expand affordable training: There is demand for more free or low-cost opportunities, particularly in emerging areas like AI, SuDS and project management.
4. Simplify Professional Registration: IHE is already working on offering additional mentoring and providing financial support via bursaries to help more members achieve registration.
5. Champion diversity and inclusion: While membership is growing, we recognise there is more work to be done to increase diversity – especially in improving gender balance within the profession.
IHE CEO Lyle Andrew said: ‘We are thrilled to see such positive feedback and are committed to implementing members’ suggestions. We will use these insights to drive even greater value for our community in 2026.’
