IHE Bursary Award Winners 2025 announced

  • Thursday November 20, 2025

The IHE has announced the winners of 10 individual bursaries to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Institute.

Following the assessment of applications in three separate categories, the bursaries totalling over £18,000 have been awarded to:

Early Years Awards – to assist IHE students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in civil or transportation engineering:

Darryl Vambe   “I’m so grateful to receive this bursary from the IHE. It’s a huge boost as I complete my MEng in Civil Engineering and prepare to begin my career in highway engineering. This support will help me continue developing the CAD and design skills I built during my summer placements, while staying engaged with IHE events and professional development opportunities.”

Dashielle Enriquez   “This bursary will be a massive help in completing my degree with more confidence as someone who is living away from home to pursue a degree and achieve a professional qualification, which are all steps in advancing my career in the Highways industry.”

Ross Bailey    “The support of the IHE early years bursary contributes to my professional development by enabling me to engage more actively with my local branch attending local events and networking with other professionals. It also helps to financially support my final year at university allowing me to focus on my studies.”

Professional Registration Awards – for IHE members seeking professional registration, helping to overcome financial barriers in their journey towards IEng or CEng status.

Daniel Green   “I’m deeply grateful to the IHE for this bursary award, which will greatly support my journey toward Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration. As Director of Avarix, I’m committed to driving innovation and best practice within the highways sector. This support will allow me to further invest in my professional development while continuing my BSc (Hons) in Construction Project Management at the University of South Wales”.

Ho Man Tsoi   “Receiving this bursary has given me the opportunity to invest in the training and support I need to reach Incorporated Engineer status, strengthening my skills and enabling me to contribute more confidently and effectively to the highways profession.”

Sohail Ahmad   “I am truly honoured to receive the IHE Professional Registration Bursary and deeply grateful to the Institute of Highway Engineers for its ongoing commitment to supporting professional development across the industry. The bursary is an excellent initiative that empowers engineers to advance their skills, achieve professional registration, reduce financial burden and contribute more effectively to the sector. This award represents a valuable opportunity for me to further develop my skills and contribute more effectively to the highways and transportation sector. The support provided through this bursary will greatly assist me in advancing my expertise in Intelligent Transport Systems, helping me progress toward IEng registration and ultimately achieve CEng  status. I look forward to applying the knowledge and experience gained to deliver smarter, safer, and more sustainable transport solutions for our communities.”

Ghulam Shaikh   “I intend to utilise the IHE Bursary to undertake a structured programme of professional development that directly supports my progression towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration and strengthens my capability in managing highway and infrastructure projects in line with UK- Engineering council professional standards.”

Personal Development Awards – to support IHE members in pursuing advanced training, certifications, or innovative projects which will have a positive future impact on the industry.

Jade Frith   “I am so thrilled to have been offered the personal development bursary from the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).  As a neurodivergent person, this bursary will allow me to fund training and resources that suite my individual needs.  I look forward to taking this opportunity to learn and develop and bring more skills and knowledge to my team.  I think it’s a great way for the IHE to celebrate its diamond anniversary – by investing in its members.  What an exciting way to wrap up 2025 – thank you!”

Other winners of the Personal Development Award included Matthew Thompson and one anonymous winner.
