IHE Annual CPD Audit

  • Tuesday October 21, 2025
We are currently conducting our annual CPD audit for members who are professionally registered. Emails have already gone out to the members who have been randomly selected.

In January 2017 the Engineering Council required all Professional Engineering Institutions to undertake random sampling of their professionally registered members’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD). From January 2020 members who persistently fail to engage with IHE’s requests to supply a CPD sample may be subject to our published CPD Sanctions Procedure. This could result in your Engineering Council registration being put at risk. The IHE is not concerned with the format of your CPD, only that you engage with us and provide some documentary evidence of CPD you have been undertaking. Sanctions only apply to members who refuse to engage with the process.

FAQs

What is CPD?
CPD is more than just training courses! CPD takes many forms and most of them are free. Please consult the IHE CPD guide for more information of what constitutes CPD. Of particular relevance is the list of appropriate CPD activities detailed on page 6.

IHE CPD Knowledge Hub

The IHE has provided a CPD knowledge hub in the Members Area where you can now find technical information and webinars on different subject areas to help you maintain your CPD.

Reflective Learning

Your CPD records should show evidence of reflective learning. In order to learn and make long-term changes to your perceptions, assumptions, understanding and behaviours, from an event, activity or experience, you need to personalise your CPD so that it is relevant to your own situation and context. Reflective learning is the process by which to achieve this and it can enable you to turn any activity into a learning experience. Your CPD records should therefore show what you have learnt, what benefits you perceive from it and how you plan to use this learning in the future.

Please read the IHE CPD guide for more information on reflective learning.
