The IHE Scotland Branch would like to invite you to their next lunchtime technical webinar on Tuesday 28th September.  The event will focus on Westfield Bridge, Falkirk – Linking Economic Development, Active Travel, and Reducing Traffic Queues

Speakers:  Mr Andrew Smith CEng MICE, Associate, WSP

Details
Falkirk is lucky to have some wonderful open spaces, from areas including the John Muir Way to magnificent parks like The Helix, dominated by the world-famous Kelpies. This project focuses on enhancing walking and cycling routes between Falkirk and Grangemouth, and improves links to The Helix and Falkirk Stadium and new developments. With circa 36,000 monthly non-motorised users (NMU) visitors to Helix Park, the bridge shall provide an important part of the works where safety and connectivity are paramount. Access to the new College Campus, Falkirk Stadium, Helix Park and future development sites shall be by the bridge allowing for future growth and providing a central hub for the green and active travel routes within Falkirk and Grangemouth. Introduction of traffic signals and dedicated turning facilities and removal of uncontrolled crossings at the roundabout will provide improved traffic flow and reduce queue lengths. Situated over the Westfield Roundabout, which will be upgraded as part of the scheme, the proposed steel cable-stayed pedestrian and cycle crossing provides access from the four corners of the junction.
