Details
For decades, the US Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) has been an essential standard for evaluating the capacity and level of service of several road elements in the US and many other countries. As the methods evolved, so did the complexity of its calculations. The current release (7th Edition) has 38 chapters and 2,500+ pages, which may be intimidating for some professionals who do not work with the manual on a daily basis.
In this webinar, we will go over best practices for using HCM methods (based on the HCM Reference Guide) in real-world applications. An overview of common misconceptions and mistakes will be provided with real-world examples.
Presenter – Dr. Bob Aghdashi
Dr. Bob Aghdashi is the director of the McTrans Center at the University of Florida Transportation Institute. His areas of expertise include traffic operations on surface streets, simulation analysis, and software development. He focuses on the application of HCM methods to the real-world use cases. He has been involved with the TRB Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service for more than ten years, and now he serves as the chair for the freeways and highways subcommittee. He has contributed to several projects developing new methods for the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), including NCHRP 3-96, NCHRP 3-115, SHRP2-L08, and a number of UTC-funded research projects.
