Details
Natural Aquifer Blocks enable application of highly innovative surface water management solutions for repairing the broken Water Cycle in urban environments. Hydrorock Attenuation, Infiltration and Irrigation systems simultaneously provide full flood & drought resilience, while greatly reducing the amount of water of surface water entering the sewer system. This presentation shows how some of leading London Boroughs have applied Natural Aquifer Block systems to enhance the urban green environment, while significantly reducing installation and operational costs and disruption.
Presenter
Steve Colville – Began his career with 10 years as a policy civil servant in the Department of Trade & Industry, followed by a decade working as a political lobbyist in London & Brussels specialising in planning & competition regulation. This was followed by 20 years working and living around the world with Chevron and Shell in the oil & gas industry Upstream, enabling the application of innovative technologies in the development and recovery of energy resources. The latter part of that time included serving as President & CEO of the oil & gas industry’s global membership organisation following the Macondo Gulf of Mexico accident, and CEO of the Mediterranean Maritime Hub in Malta. He now is leading efforts in the UK & Ireland to transform urban surface water management practices through the widespread adoption of Natural Aquifer drainage and irrigation.
Henry Cheung – A senior public sector manager and Chartered Civil Engineer, I am committed to creating, improving and protecting infrastructure and the local environment, delivering better outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors. I have extensive and wide-ranging experience of working with politicians, communities and other stakeholders to deliver complex highway, transportation and climate change projects of all sizes and complexity to support and deliver the Council’s objectives.
Lizzy Bunker is Richmond council’s Programme Manager for Community BlueScapes – one of DEFRA’s flood and coastal resilience innovation projects. In her previous role as Lead Local Flood Authority Officer in Richmond and Wandsworth she tackled flooding and drainage issues across both boroughs. She has worked as a flood risk consultant across London, identifying new ideas and strategies to manage flooding in the city. In her early career, Lizzy monitored river levels and flows across Kent and South London with the Environment Agency.
