Delivering Infrastructure for Major Events:
City Park Events Field and BBC Radio 2 in the Park
Tuesday 29 September
12:00pm to 1:00pm
Speaker: Gary Neill – Roads and Land Service Manager, Stirling Council
As part of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal, the City Park Events Field Project represents a significant investment in infrastructure to support economic growth, tourism, and the attraction of major national events to the region.
In preparation for BBC Radio 2 in the Park, Stirling Council’s Roads and Infrastructure team delivered an extensive programme of civil engineering works, including:
- Earthworks and site preparation
- Drainage infrastructure
- Site access improvements
- Utility diversions and coordination
- Road and footway enhancements
- Traffic management measures
- Construction of heavy-duty vehicle access routes
A key element of the project was the installation of the Terram TruckPave® Cellular Porous Paving System, an innovative heavy-duty ground reinforcement solution manufactured from 100% recycled polymers. The system is capable of supporting vehicles up to 60 tonnes gross vehicle weight, with axle loads of up to 200kN, while maintaining a permeable grassed surface suitable for both event operations and long-term use.
This presentation will explore how strategic roads and civil engineering investment can deliver resilient, multi-functional infrastructure that meets the operational demands of major events while creating lasting economic benefits for the wider City Region.
