Carnell has been working with the Scotland’s Trunk Road Operating Companies and have been using StoneMaster on the trunk road network for over 20 years. Carnell have continually improved their approach, but the original objectives have remained the same. Filter Drain Recycling reduces materials, vehicle movements, landfill and carbon emissions by remediating the filter media in-situ.

Carnell also help to identify the hot-spots on Trunk Road network. SmartScan spent 6 months in Scotland during 2025 assessing filter drain condition, developing a risk-based approach to forward maintenance.

These two innovative processes have seen Carnell win the Green Apple Award and will help Transport Scotland to meet their ambitious targets set out in their Climate Change Plan.

Our Speaker for the evening will be Wayne Griffin, Operations Manager for Scotland.
