Connected vehicles (CVs) are an emerging technology that can solve or mitigate many problems related to safety and mobility. However, the deployment of CV vehicles is complex and requires extensive preparation as well as an innovative solution during the deployment process. One of the challenges is governance and the exchange of high-resolution data.

Data exchange is essential for developing flexible and reliable CV applications. Information that needs to be exchanged, such as different CV messages that inform drivers of road and traffic conditions and situational awareness that could be affected due to inclement weather, crashes, or work zones, is the first step to improving safety using CVs. Moreover, reliable data exchange is necessary to successfully integrate autonomous vehicles (AV) in actual traffic conditions. The robust sensor system installed on AVs cannot recognize various traffic events from the sensor sign; hence, communication with the infrastructure and other vehicles is essential (V2X).

This webinar will overview CV technology, the importance of data exchange for CV development and use cases, and how it could be applied to different environments and data sharing with third parties.

Dr. Zorica Cvijovic, Connected Vehicle Strategist, Trihydro Corporation

Dr. Cvijovic has over ten years of experience in traffic engineering, transportation, and logistics, including her doctoral degree in Transportation Engineering at the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree in Traffic and Transportation Engineering from the University of Belgrade, Serbia. Dr. Cvijovic works at Trihydro Corporation as a Connected Vehicle Strategist. She focuses on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and emerging technologies such as Connected Vehicles (CVs). Dr. Cvijovic has received several awards, including the WTS Colorado Helene M. Overly Memorial (2022) and the ITE CO/WY Section Graduate Level (2020 and 2021). She has published and presented her research work with CV technology in different transportation journals and conferences. Dr. Cvijovic is a member of ITS America (V2X and Connected Vehicles committee) and ITE.
