Our vision is to be the Institute of Choice for Highway Engineers. Our mission is to provide professional development opportunities, support and leadership for individuals to achieve and maintain professional recognition.

  • We’ve been registering engineers and technicians with the Engineering Council since 1972 and accrediting academic courses since 1989. We’re proud of our long history and provide our members with 50 plus years of highways experience.

Professional Registration

Becoming a professionally registered engineer demonstrates your high standard of competence and commitment. By choosing to register, you set yourself apart as an engineer with high standards and also demonstrate your commitment to maintain that competence in the future.

Academy Training

The IHE Highway Engineering Academy offers industry-led training in highway engineering. Through one of our specialist training courses leading to an industry-recognised Professional Certificate or Diploma, the HEA delivers the qualifications, skills and knowledge demanded by the highways industry which are in short supply today.

Work with us

Professional Development Partnerships are open to Highways Sector businesses, Local Government Authorities, Academic Institutions, Professional Engineering Institutes and other Highways interest based organisations.

Resources

We administer the registers for Highway Inspectors and Road Safety Auditors as well as manage our active forums contributed to by highways professionals.

Conference

ACostE are pleased to announce that the next ACostE Conference is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th July 2023.

The conference is being held over two days, and will combine presentations by guest speakers and fellow members. In addition, to support continual professional development, a series of short workshops are available to attend.

There is an exciting and influential keynote speaker to open the conference on the 5th of July.

And if all of this hasn’t managed to wet your appetite, there is a Conference Awards dinner in the evening of the 5th July.

– Entrance to the conference is by ticket, including refreshments and a buffet lunch.

– Entrance to the Awards dinner is by an additional ticket.

This ACostE conference is open to ACostE members and non-members.

Venue

The ACostE Conference 2023 will take place at Birmingham City University’s Millennium Point campus (fourth floor). The university is known for its strong links with industry and innovative research programs, making it the perfect location for our conference that bridges academia and industry.

Millennium Point is located in the heart of Birmingham, one of the UK’s most vibrant and diverse cities. The campus is easily accessible by public transport, with the nearest train station (Birmingham Moor Street) just a 10-minute walk away. If you’re driving, there is ample parking available nearby.

ACostE Conference Dinner Awards

Make the most of your ACostE Conference 2023 experience by attending the conference dinner at Clayton’s Conference Lounge (Clayton Hotel Birmingham, Albert St, Birmingham B5 5JE). Enjoy a delicious 3-course banqueting menu, Prosecco at reception, and complementary drinks at the table while connecting with fellow skilled professionals.

How to get there

Birmingham is an exciting, vibrant city with good facilities and transportation links.

Public transport: Birmingham City University’s Millennium Point campus is located near Birmingham city center and is easily accessible by public transport. The nearest train station is Birmingham New Street, which is only a short walk from the campus. Additionally, several bus routes run directly to the campus. You can plan your journey and find more information on the Travel West Midlands website.

Car parking: There is limited car parking available at the Millennium Point campus. However, there are several public car parks located nearby, such as the Millennium Point multi-story car park and the Car Park 3 on Park Street. Parking fees may apply, and attendees are encouraged to plan their journey in advance to ensure they can find parking.
