Full Details

Back in July of this year, a national crash demonstration event took place, during which a variety of combinations of passively safe roadside items were impacted, in a series of remote-controlled demonstrations. Film footage and electronic data recording within the vehicles were subsequently analysed to determine if the passive safety performance of the items could be affected by their use in this way.

The Passive Safety Standard – EN 12767:2019 does not specifically deal with the testing of these combinations of items and so this is a valuable insight into real world performance of products tested to EN 12767.

Passive Safety UK invites design engineers, specifiers and road safety auditors to this Passive Safety Conference to find out what was intended and achieved by the crash demonstrations and how this is to be used in future advice and standard updates. The conference will be integrated with a large exhibition of passive products and experts from industry will be on hand to explain how their products work.

Passive Safety UK will also be presenting new National Guidelines, incorporating advice derived from the results of the crash demonstration day and incorporating an up to date comprehensive listing of available products and their EN 12767 classifications.

This event is endorsed by The Institute of Highways Engineers and the Chartered Institution of Highway & Transportation and a full days CPD credit is available. Tickets are fully refundable in the event of the introduction of any Covid restrictions which prevent the Conference taking place.

This Conference is also endorsed by National Highways.

“Passively safe structures play a key role in making the road environment more forgiving. However, it is important that designers are aware of and understand the current standard to allow them to design and specify appropriate products to ensure that the positive safety benefits are achieved. National Highways welcomes initiatives to educate and inform designers and specifiers to improve safety and I am happy to support this conference”.
Jim Gallagher BSc (Hons) CEng MICE, Principal Structures Advisor Safety, Engineering and Standards Structures Policy, National Highways.
