Dear Member,
Due to the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions by various UK authorities, the IHE has reviewed its operations in accordance with the Government’s guidelines and ongoing advice.
As previously announced, all IHE events such as training events, meetings, conferences etc are currently suspended or postponed. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks, and as things hopefully become clearer, we will notify you all if these arrangements change.
To protect our staff the IHE offices in London and Birmingham remain closed, but post can now be received and processed at the London office. Importantly, this means Professional Review, Professional Certificate and Professional Diploma applications and portfolios can now be sent to the IHE office at 286 Euston Road in London with immediate effect. In addition, any members who are yet to pay their 2020 membership fees, and wish to do so by cheque, can send these to the London address.
Professional Review, Professional Certificate and Professional Diploma application portfolios will now be processed, documents will be checked and desktop assessment of documentary evidence will be undertaken where possible. However, until further notice Professional Review Interviews will not be undertaken nor will our Membership & Qualifications Committee be able to meet, so no results for Professional Reviews or Professional Certificates/ Diplomas will be released until further notice. We will keep you regularly updated of the status of your application.
The Institute’s office staff are still currently available to contact via email should you wish to do so, and we will continue to support and guide members as much as we can during this difficult period.

Message from Steve Spender IHE Chief Executive to all Members
Dear Colleague,
I trust that you are all staying safe and healthy during the challenging situation we all now find ourselves in. I hope that many of you are able to work safely from home and thus avoid as much travel as possible, in accordance with the Government’s guidelines and ongoing advice.
With so much of the country now being forced to shut down, and businesses closing their doors, I thought it was necessary for me to keep you up to date with the current situation regarding the IHE.
As you are probably aware over the last week or so, I took the decision to protect our staff and I closed the offices in London and Birmingham with immediate effect. These will remain closed until such time as advice is given from the Government that it is safe once again to open them.
I had previously announced all IHE events such as training events, meetings etc have been postponed for April, and I have now taken the decision to extend this further so that all current events planned up until the end of June are also being postponed. This falls in line with the advice coming from Government about restrictions being in place for at least the next twelve weeks. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks, and as things hopefully become much clearer, I will notify you all if these arrangements change.
Our Presidential Conference and National AGM were planned for the 18th & 19th June 2020, and in line with the above we have now made the decision to postpone both of these events with immediate effect. The AGM will be postponed until September 2020, and I will notify members of the revised date when it is known. The current President, Jonathan Pearson, other members of the Executive Board and Council members will be remaining in their current posts until the rearranged AGM is held.
This means that our incoming President Stephen Webb, will now not be taking up his Presidency in June 2020 as planned but at the revised AGM. Unfortunately, with the cancellation of the Presidential Conference and celebratory event, these will now be rescheduled for June 2021.
The Institute’s office staff are still currently available to contact via email should you wish to do so, and we will continue to support and guide members as much as we can during this difficult period.
Finally, may I take the opportunity to thank you all for your understanding during this period of upheaval, and extend my best wishes to you and your families. I hope that you all remain safe and healthy.

Updated Tuesday 17th March 14:41
Following the latest advice from Government regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak and the recommendation to reduce travel to essential journeys only, we have made the decision to restrict access to our London and Birmingham office with immediate effect in order to protect staff and visitors. You are asked to refrain from calling the IHE by telephone as we cannot guarantee someone will always be available to take your call.
Please note: Unfortunately, we are still experiencing issues with our online processing of credit and debit card payments. We are working on a fix as soon as possible. Alternative options for making payment include: bank transfer (please see the instructions on the bottom of your invoice or email info@theihe.org for more information), cheque (made payable to the IHE) or please email info@theihe.org and ask us to call you back to take payment over the phone.
As of today Tuesday 17th March, we would request that all contact with the IHE is carried out via email, contacting us using our Contact Us page: http://theihe.org/contact/. We will endeavour to respond to emails as quickly as possible and continue to provide what every assistance we can. If you would prefer to talk to someone, please email us and leave your contact details and we will arrange for you to receive a call back when possible.
At present IHE events are still planned to be going ahead as normal, although given the fast moving nature of the situation all training events, conferences, meeting etc may be subject to cancellation at very short notice. We will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice coming from Government and the NHS regarding travel and the holding of public events and will provide the necessary updates as soon as possible.
Branch Secretaries and/or Chairmen are asked to contact HQ for any advice or guidance on the holding of branch meetings, AGM’s etc.
Updated Friday 13th March 2020
Due to the unprecedented impact of the Coronavirus and its impact on public events, IHE training events, conferences, meeting etc may be subject to cancellation at short notice. We will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice coming from Government and the NHS regarding travel and the holding of public events that are likely to effect planned IHE meetings and other events. Please continue to monitor this page for further updates.
At present IHE events are going ahead as normal. We would urge all of our members to follow the safety advice being issued by the NHS regarding the precautions that should be observed i.e. hand washing, handshakes etc. We will ensure that we update members and branches should this advice change in the near future.
In terms of any AGMs it remains the decision of each branch whether to consider postponing their AGM and other events if they consider it necessary. There is currently no alternative advice in our guidance notes regarding the holding of AGMs via Skype and other methods, but it is considered that this is not something that is supported by HQ. Any AGM should be held on the basis of personal attendance by members particularly as votes may need to be taken. Our M&A’s do state that any AGM must be arranged within 15 months of the previous meeting, and this provides the necessary flexibility should situations such as that currently being faced by current situation regarding the Coronavirus.
Please feel free to contact HQ if you require any further advice.
