Faber Maunsell has been commissioned by DfT to research options for modifying signals during low demand periods. The objective is to reduce the carbon footprint of signal installations (not necessarily by reducing the energy consumption of the installation itself - the other discussion threads suggest that with ELV and LED this would be minimal - but by improving the efficiency during such periods, for example minimising stop-starts)

We have produced an on-line questionnaire, available at the link below. I would be very grateful if any members of this group would be prepared to spend 10 minutes competing it. You can choose to answer anonymously if you wish, but if you would like a copy of the results you can include your personal details which will not be disclosed to anyone else.

    Many thanks

    Pete Harman

Pete, can you get better than efficient VA with demand dependent stages - provided you don't have a number of close proximity junctions?

In Liverpool, the time table is being replaced by COMET automated strategies; one function here is to bring SCOOT control on or off when traffic levels are appropriate via COMET, this alone reduces delay imposed by bringing in control before necessary as is the case with time tables.
