Traffic Signal Control
IHE's Professional Certificate in Traffic Signal Control sets a new standard for the professional practitioner.
All TfL signals graduates are put through the certificate which allows engineers and to potential employers their knowledge and competence in the conception, design and installation of signals at Foundation, Practitioner and Expert Practitioner level.

How
You match yourself against the standards of knowledge and competence IHE has identified, submit a Report of 1,000 to 3,000 words describing your contribution to a few recent schemes or projects, backed by supporting evidence, and present the Report at an interview. The Report and documents will need to match the competence standards you are aiming to satisfy.

You don't have to be a member of IHE nor are there any academic entry requirements.

Progression
Once you have passed, you can join the Institute as a Member or Fellow, depending on your qualifications and experience.
If you want to gain Engineering Council registration as a Technician or Incorporated Engineer, you can apply simultaneously for the IHE Certificate and for Professional Review, provided you have the right academic qualifications. Ask IHE for details.
Your Professional Certificate portfolio can also be taken into account if you want to go on to gain an NVQ3 or 4 in Transportation.
The Statements of Competence and knowledge set out what a competent signals engineer should know and be able to do. They can therefore help guide your training and development.
Cost
The Certificate is available at three levels for which the application fees are:
- Foundation £90.00
- Practitioner £120.00
- Expert Practitioner £150.00.
