Highways Magazine Excellence Awards 2012

Open now to any organisation working in the UK highways industry. This is a great opportunity to recognise exceptional hard work, innovation, initiative and effectiveness within the industry.
The short listed entries will be invited to the awards ceremony and gala dinner which is a prestigious evening of celebration, networking and entertainment.
IHE Employer of the Year Award
This category is open to ANY individual or team from the Highways Industry. It will be awarded to an individual employee or team of employees who has/have demonstrated a significant personal and/or professional achievement within the public or private sector to improve/sustain the outputs or efforts of their organization, over and above their general working activities.
This Award will recognise innovative and professional achievement that addresses the Highways industry.
Judges will be evaluating:
- Aims and objectives of the scheme/project or product and the challenges met and obstacles overcome by the nominee.
- The nominee's input that helped reach overall goals of the scheme/project/product and its development.
- Demonstration of the nominees efforts that led to improvements in the scheme/project/product.
- The actual/potential impact of the initiative and any perceived future benefits to the highways industry as a whole.

2011 Winner

The only UK construction company to achieve Investors in People Gold, Bardon Contracting continues to set the standard in the retention, continued development and recruitment of its workforce.
Judges comment:
"A well rounded approach to staff retention, training and progression involving staff of all ages and experience."
2010 Winner
Atkins won the 2010 Award for their Operational Traning Academy.
2009 Winner
Ringway Infrastructure Services won the 2009 award for its trainee highway worker scheme.
Runner up: South Lanarkshire.
2008 Winner
Atkins won the inaugural award for its Development Framework.
Tony Sharp, IHE President, chaired the Judges Panel which included Alan Pickett - Highways Agency, Andrew Murray - NI Roads, Jim Barton - Transport Scotland and Tony Parker - Welsh Assembly.
