Your rights as a member

IHE is an open and democratic Institution. IHE is run by a national Council of elected members. You can seek election and vote.

  • The Institute has fifteen regional branches organised by local members. Your participation will be welcomed. You can also start up your own local activities.
  • At head office there are six staff who support the work of IHE.
  • There are also many networks of IHE members offering advice and support to the public, the profession's employers, other members and aspiring members. You can be a mentor, a reviewer, a course accreditor, or contribute to IHE consultations.

Fellows, Members and Associate Members of IHE can:

  • vote at all branch, national and Institute meetings
  • be elected to Council
  • use designatory letters (FIHE, MIHE, AMIHE) to demonstrate professional competence

Graduate Members and Student Members can:

  • sit on branch committees (all branches are run by local members)
  • serve as branch officers (except the posts of chair and vice chair which are reserved for corporate members)
  • vote for 2 representatives to sit on Council
