Individual routes forward
Other academic entry qualifications may access other routes, for example:
| Chartered Engineer | Incorporated Engineer | Engineering Technician |
| BSc (Hons) in engineering or cognate discipline or senior IEng. You need technical MSc or Further Learning at work or Technical Report Route |
HND started in/after 1999 BSc (Hons) in cognate discipline Top up with Further Learning at work or Technical Report Route Individual Route | MANCAT Road Safety, Bath HOT, C & G in traffic engineering Use the Individual route form |
Further Learning allows BEng(Hons) or senior IEng applicants for CEng or HND applicants for IEng to demonstrate knowledge to the benchmark level from projects at work, by additional academic courses (eg a Postgraduate Diploma) or by a combination of both. IHE needs to give you the go ahead to use this route: look at the Other Routes Document CE4 or Document IE4. Application templates are available. If you pass the further learning assessment, you can follow the standard professional review.
Under the Technical Report Route you submit a Technical Report in which you show engineering knowledge and understanding to the same level as Masters or degree level qualified contemporaries at the same time as submitting for Review. There are two interviews. All is explained in Document CE4 / Document IE4.
Engineering UK
Engineering UK promotes engineering as a profession and career choice and is paid for, in part, through EC registration fees. The annual Big Bang Fair is a prime activity.
Engineering UK often works in tandem with the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Technician Council
Government announced the formation of this pan-professional Council to promote skilled technicians in April 2010.
The announcement was welcomed by the Engineering Council and the RAE who are members.

The technical report route opened up CEng for me It allowed me to use my technical and managerial experience gained at Hampshire County Council and through the DfT's UG405 project, to meet the Engineering Council's standards for professional engineering competence
