The IHE register allows members who practice as independent consultants or in small firms or partnerships to showcase their services to the public and to potential clients.
Members' expertise typically covers aspects of highway maintenance, highway developments planning, traffic management and control, materials testing, transport infrastructure design or project management.
Only members who are Engineering Council registered as Engineering Technicians, Incorporated Engineers or Chartered Engineers may sign up or sign up their companies.
Hence anyone using the register knows they can trust the reputation and quality of those listed. The Institute admits for Engineering Council registration only those with approved academic qualifications and practical experience who have passed the IHE professional review. All members are bound by the IHE code of conduct which again acts as an assurance particularly to members of the public who may invoke disciplinary procedures. Most specialists carry insurance.
