Details:

This annual residential course is for engineers involved in the management, design or implementation of traffic control systems. The course is organised by IHE in conjunction with major UK industry players and the ADEPT Traffic System Group and complements the JCT Consultancy training programme.

Course aims

The four days are structured around the Highway Agency's Standards for Highway Works (Design Manuals for Roads and Bridges) and the Code of Practice for the Management of Electronic Traffic Management, with lectures from leading practitioners.

Delegates learn:

  • To plan and manage the implementation of traffic control schemes
  • To prepare TR2500 data sheets
  • To conduct factory and site acceptance tests
  • To develop maintenance contracts and to monitor them

The course centres around a traffic signal control scheme which is developed by delegate groups in the evening putting into practice principles learnt in the day with tutorial support from the lecturers. A comprehensive course file is issued to each delegate.

NB: Delegates are expected to have either attended an introductory signals course or have a year's relevant experience.
