Parking Standards: an IHE Debate
Residential parking in new developments - how to square the circle?
Kent and Essex have returned to specifying a minimum number of spaces. Others are applying the Residential Parking Research for PPS3.
IHE hosted a discussion on 28th January 2010 with presentations from Bob White of Kent CC and Keith Lawson of Essex CC. The debate was chaired by Stephen Hardy of Dorset CC and provoked lively and interesting debate.
Check out the IHE Parking webpage for more details.

we have a maximum parking standard, which results in many cases with car-free schemes. whilst the concept for sustainable travel is recognised, and the associated healthy excercise, for those residents who do choose to own a car and live in a car free development, they will park in the surrounding streets. it is most likely necessary for their car to be moved during the daytime, which means a car borne trip on the network, which might have been avoided if the car could have been left in an off street safe car park.
